Touring Production AV Technician


KAR Productions – National Dance Competition Tour

KAR Productions is now accepting applications for a Touring Production AV Technician to join our 2026 national dance competition tour. We’re looking for a hands-on production professional who enjoys working as part of a touring team and thrives in fast-paced live event environments.

This role works side-by-side with the Production Manager and touring crew to build, operate, and strike the technical elements that bring each dance competition to life.


About the Role

As a Touring Production AV Technician, you will support the setup, operation, and breakdown of all on-site production elements at each tour stop. From stage build to lighting, sound, LED walls, and video systems, you’ll play a key role in delivering a seamless and professional event experience for dancers, families, and venues.

This is a hands-on, team-based touring position requiring technical skill, adaptability, and a strong work ethic.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with load-in and load-out of all production equipment
  • Support the setup and strike of a 72’ x 36’ performance stage
  • Assist with installation and operation of:
    • Stage and soft goods
    • Lighting systems
    • Sound systems
    • LED video wall and video playback
  • Work closely with the Production Manager to:
    • Ensure proper signal flow and system setup
    • Maintain clean, safe, and organized backstage and FOH areas
    • Support cue execution and live show adjustments as needed
  • Help unload and load production trucks efficiently and safely
  • Maintain high standards for safety, professionalism, and teamwork
  • Communicate effectively with the touring crew, Production Manager, and venue staff

Tour Commitment

  • Must be available for weekend travel from January through July
  • Travel and accommodations are arranged by KAR Productions
  • Load-in typically occurs on Thursday, with show days on Friday through Sunday
  • This role requires long days, physical activity, and consistent travel

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience in live event production (dance, theater, concerts, or touring)
  • Working knowledge of lighting, audio, video, or LED systems
  • Understanding of basic signal flow and live event setup
  • Ability to work efficiently as part of a team in high-energy environments
  • Physically able to lift equipment, stand for long periods, and work extended hours
  • Positive attitude, reliability, and strong attention to detail

Bonus If You Have

  • Prior touring experience or multi-city event experience
  • Experience with:
    • Lighting systems or consoles
    • LED video walls or video playback systems
    • Live sound reinforcement
  • Knowledge of power distribution or stage rigging
  • Interest in growing into a lead or management role over time
